As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. As he stepped on the dusty surface, Armstrong said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Astronaut Neil Armstrong developed a fascination with flight at an early age and earned his student pilot's license when he was 16. In 1947, He then flew jets for the US Navy. Armstrong began his studies in aeronautical engineering at Purdue University on a U.S. Navy scholarship. He was one of the first pilots to join NASA. Armstrong died on august 25,2012
